micro:bit Blue

One of the things my work with the BBC micro:bit produced is an Android application with which you can experience many of the types of things you can do with Bluetooth on the micro:bit. In the beginning I wrote the initial versions of the application to allow me to test the Bluetooth profile as it was being implemented by Lancaster University. But bit by bit (no pun intended!) it took on a life of its own and I use it all the time now to demonstrate just how much fun you can have with micro:bit and Bluetooth and in fact how much you can learn. I even used it recently as part of a Bluetooth technical training course I was involved in delivering for Bluetooth SIG in Berlin, micro:bit is not just for kids :-)

Today I renamed my application 'micro:bit Blue' and published it in Google Play. If you want to load it onto your Android phone or tablet head over to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluetooth.mwoolley.microbitbledemo

Each page has a help menu by the way and there's lots of information in there about what you can do and how things work.

Enjoy!

Code it. Connect it. Bitty Software.

  2. Not yet. I donated my code to the BBC and they're now in control of it's release. I was told it would be released by mid-July but that doesn't seem to have happened. I'll make enquiries....

  3. Your demonstration is very impressive - have the BBC indicated when the code will be released?
I'm interested in transmitting readings from other i2c devices, such as the HDC1080 from Ti, or the SI7051 from Silicon Labs, for high accuracy environmental monitoring - and your code could be a good starting point. Or do you know of any other resources that could help me?

  4. Hi... the last time I asked (not long ago) they said "mid-August". If that doesn't happen I'll chase again. Sorry about this... no idea what the delay is.
